For the Love of Summer: Wanderlust

Hero Arts My Monthly Hero April 2020

Hey Festival Friends!! This past Christmas, I decided to invite some crafty friends to join me in a Festival of Christmas with a themed limited run series of social media hops. It was so fun that we decided to do more limited run series!

And it is time for another one: For the Love of Summer. There are four episodes in this series, and this one focuses on Wanderlust.

Summer is full of outdoor glory. So many places to visit, near and far! Amusement parks, county and state fairs, parades, fireworks, state and national parks, flea markets and garage sales, roadside stands and farmers markets, and road trips. Even though things this year are drastically different, we will get to do these things again. Let's remember them now, and relive some of those good times.

I will always want to visit the ocean, or really any water source. I love the water. In it, on it, or just near it-that is where I want to wander!

So, this card just started as playtime with the April 2020 My Monthly Hero kit. I love the stencil that came with it, and I wanted to see if I could make it work on a Slimline card. They are all the rage right now.

  • I sprayed the stencil with some Pixie Spray and stuck it to a long piece of craft cardstock.
  • Then I used Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade, Cracked Pistachio, and Salty Ocean Distress Oxides to blend through the stencil.
  • Next I shifted the stencil down a fee inches and blended on some Frayed Burlap to create a sandy beach.
  • I cut this panel down the smallest of the Trinity Stamps Stitched Slimline dies.
  • For the dolphin, I smooshed some Versamark ink on a scrap of paper, covered  with embossing powder, and heat embossed.
  • Then die cut the embossed scrap with the dolphin die, and a piece of coaster blank with the same die, and glued them together.
  • I glued the dolphin to the stenciled panel, then added the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink using my MISTI for perfect placement.
  • I cut a piece of Sahara Sand (SU) cardstock to 7"x8.5", and scored at 3.5" to create the cardbase.
  • Inside the card, I used the ink still on the blender brushes with the stencil to add some fun to it. And a sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black.
  • Next, I glued some coaster blank to the back of the main panel for dimension and glued that to the cardbase front.

I had a little bit too much Pixie Spray on the stencil and the adhesive stuck to the panel, so I used a sanding block to lightly sand it away, however I caught an edge of the dolphin with it too. After it was all assembled! Figures.

I continue my love affair with stenciling on the inside of my cards. This time I took it a little too far maybe. It is still pretty though!

And I made a coordinating envelope with the Trinity Stamps Slimline Envelope die set.

Ok, that is it for  me! Don't miss the rest of the hop at the end of this post. I have provided a list of the supplies I used for you below.

Crafty Christmas Club: June

Time for another Christmas project, or projects! I got a little carried away this time. I couldn't help  it, blame it on the stamps 😁

Me and my crafty friends get together on the 25th of the every month and share Christmas projects. Hopefully, this will help us to slow things down during the holiday season by keeping us more caught up. Join us, all year long! Share your project on social media with the tag #craftychristmasclub2020

I adore this bunch of products! Concord and 9th always has amazing Christmas stuff, and this is actually some of the first things I ever purchased from them.

I did get the brand new Distress color, Speckled Egg.  I used it with Iced Spruce and Evergreen Bough on this blended background.  The Nordic sweater pattern was stamped and heat embossed with White Satin Pearl.

The pieces of the bauble die were all used. The bauble is backed with silver glitter paper.

This sentiment is a Glimmer Foil die from Spellbinders with Aura  foil. So pretty!!

Inside the card, the sentiment is Liquid Platinum heat embossed.

The bauble on this card is 2 layers of vellum on a white background panel and clear heat embossed.

The bauble is 2 layers of vellum, the top one has all of the detail dies added. I found some holly dies in another Concord and 9th die sets.

In real life, the stitched details on the vellum is easy to see, but it is super tough to get on camera!

For some reason, I love a pink Christmas card now and again. It definitely feels cozy!

This is Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, and Picked Raspberry Oxides blended, with white heat embossing.

I dug through my stash and found some dies that  worked well with these sentiments, and the Liquid Platinum embossing makes another appearance.

OK, that is finally it. I hope you are inspired to do a little holiday crafting!

The rest of the blog roll is at the end of this post, so don't forget to check it out.

Paper Craft Crew Challenge #382

This week's challenge is a color combo challenge. I think these are my favorite kind 😁

Every Wednesday there is a new challenge for you to be inspired with, and you can join the fun by adding your project to the challenge! This is PCC382.

I am getting back into the video groove, so here is how I made this card. Coloring included!

I started planning this card by picking the colors for the background- Distress Oxides in Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Cracked Pistachio, Evergreen Bough, and Tumbled Glass. I used a stencil to create the ink blended drips.

Then I picked some matching colors from my Copic markers to color this Sassy Girl!

  • Hair: T3, T5, T7
  • Skin: E33, E35, E39
  • Green: BG11, BG34
  • Blue:  B00, B12
  • Pink: R81, RV32, R43

I can't stop using these stitched and scalloped layering die, they are just so perfect. And this is another look at those drips. Blending the pink and green was a bit risky-they could just as easily have made mud!

There are pops of gold in the sprinkles on the blue donut, the pinstripe gold heat embossed background, and the sequins.

More stenciling on the inside. Yup, another something I obsessed with right now, lol!

That's it for this card. Come back again soon for more inspiration!

Crafty Friends: Concord and 9th

Feeling bright and sun-shiny here! The Crafty Friends are back with another inspirational hop, with a coupon.
The featured company this month is Concord and 9th. They have so many amazing products, and if my dreams came true, I would have everything they make. (Confession-not a minimalist here 😁)

The coupon code for this hop is good at the Concord and 9th website from 6:00am MDT June 20, 2020 to midnight MDT June 21, 2020- you have 2 days to place an order with 20% off your order! Click on the link, and use the code CRAFTYFRIENDSJUNE20

This is a very shiny card! I have been thinking about boxes of sunshine lately, and so yellow has been my mood.  Along with Slim Line cards. They shake the design part of my brain up a little bit, and stimulate new creativity. I think that is part of why they are so popular right now.

The Daily Wear bundle, with the images on this card, was released last summer. It is super sweet and perfect for just about any occasion. I paired it with the just released Simply Said bundle.

Copic coloring took just a few minutes. Since there are dies for everything but the girl, fussy. cutting was at a minimum.

The background was created with the Brutus Monroe Dome Slim Line stencil and the Lemon Curd Glitter Glaze of the Month. But first,  I ink blended the panel with Squeezed Lemonade and Wild Honey Distress Oxides. Then it was die cut with Trinity Stamps Stitched Slimline dies.

There is a bouquet of flowers in the set. And flowers for her hair! The Simply Said large sentiments all have coordinating dies, if that is your thing, It is definitely my thing. Me and dies are besties 😁

I am really enjoying the way this stencil highlights the inside sentiment. I added another bouquet inside. There is a lot of real estate inside! Plenty of room for pretty, and for you to write more than a few words.

I hope this brought some sunshine to your day!

For the Love of Summer: Sweet Summertime

Hey Festival Friends!! This past Christmas, I decided to invite some crafty friends to join me in a Festival of Christmas with a themed limited run series of social media hops. It was so fun that we decided to do more limited run series!

And it is time for another one: For the Love of Summer. There are four episodes in this series, and this one focuses on Sweet Summertime.

Summer food. So many yummy things, so many fun ways and places to eat. This is about ice cream and watermelon, grilling on the deck, picnics, bonfires and s'mores, outdoor seating at your favorite eatery, and homemade pies. Who's hungry?

I pulled a video together for this card, can you believe it?!!

I had totally planned to make a s'mores card for this event. I even bought s'mores shaker bits! But then Sassy and Crafty released this stamp set! I mean, come on. I had to use this!

There is also this awesome Hearts stencil that I had to play with. The big panel was inked with Hero Hues Reactive inks in Fruit Punch, Creamsicle, and Taffy, then laid the stencil over the background and inked over top with the same colors.

The smaller panel is the same stencil over a white panel and inked with the blender brushes that I used for the darker panel, without adding more ink.

I have always tried to have diverse people in my projects, and in support of the Black Lives Matter, I am going to be a little less diverse. All of the people I color for the near future will be black 😁 Representation matters, y'all!

Hey, you should be impressed. I remembered to write down what Copic colors I used! Here are the colors:
  • Hair: T3,  T5, T7
  • Skin: E33, E35, E39
  • Yellows: Y19, Y38
  • Orange: R12, R08
  • Red: R27, R37
  • Chocolate: E25, E27
  • Cone: E33, E35

This embossed sentiment is bold and beautiful, and just screams to be used with the Brutus Monroe Night Shift embossing powder. This is the Gold Night Shift. It looks black when you look at it straight on, and looks gold when you shift it in the light!

The Glass Beach embellishments add the perfect touch!

I have been obsessed with using stencils inside cards to highlight the sentiment area lately, and this is no different.

You will find links to rest of the hop at the end of this post.
