Pumpkin Juice & More

Are you a fan of everything pumpkin? It is certainly the season here in the US! And I have had a love affair with pumpkin for much longer than it has been a “thing” here. I was playing with the Gourd Goodness stamp set, which I must admit I was really not all that excited about, when I had a brilliant idea! (I love Gourd Goodness now, and can’t stop playing with it!)

You look at this set and think "Eh, its some squash and a leaf." No big deal. But then you play with it!

Dripping pumpkin juice!! This would be a perfect card for the lovers of a certain lighting-scar sporting character too.

This effect is ridiculously easy.

1. Tape a piece of Watercolor paper to a board.

2. Sponge Pumpkin Pie ink on the top half.

3. Prop the board upright at an angle, and spray water onto the sponging with a Stampin’ Spritzer until it starts to move and drip down the panel.

4. Air dry, or if you are impatient like me, dry at a distance with the Heat Tool.

5. Sponge on some more Pumpkin Pie ink over the first layer and repeat to get more drips and more intense color on the top.

6. When this is all dry, wipe with an Embossing Buddy, spatter with water, and sprinkle with Copper embossing powder. Then heat set with the Heat Tool.

The pumpkins are a 2 step image. I stamped the first layer in Pumpkin Pie ink and the second layer in Versamark, then embosses in Clear on the top and Copper on the bottom. I did use the Merry Café stamp set and Coffee Cups framelits to create the Vellum pumpkin juice cup. Layering Ovals framelits and Stitched Shapes framelits created the focal image. And darned if I didn’t sneak another stamp set in for the sentiment with Feather Together! The sentiment was inked up in Pumpkin Pie ink, then the Clear and Copper embossing powders were used again to make a two-toned image.

Can you see the added detail all of the embossing created? I love it!

Then I had to make a leaf version, and I really wanted to capture the color of my very favorite trees, the fiery red of maple trees. It took a little trial and error, but Rose Red was the winner! Rose Red is a seriously under-appreciated color.

I had to take another photo to capture the full detail on this leaf. Here you can really see the many leaves I stamped along the top with the second layer image only. Some were stamped in Rose Red, and some were stamped in Versamark, then Clear and Copper heat embossed.

I really wanted to create a card with three leaves in different colors, so this was the next project. I started with a dripping background of Sahara Sand. Then, I inked up the first layer of the leaf image, and spritzed with a water-filled Stampin’ Spritzer, then set it on the Watercolor paper for about 15 seconds before lifting it off the panel. I then tilted the board and carefully added a tiny bit more water with and Aqua-painter and encouraged a drip to form from the end of the stem. I did this is Rose Red, Pumpkin Pie, and Crushed Curry.
