Creative Crew: Rainbow Spotlight

We all need some encouragement in our lives sometimes. And rainbows. Lots and lots of rainbows!! This card is the result of the Creative Crew Catalog Focus challenge this month. Take a tutorial from Splitcoaststampers.com and use your favorite new SU product.

Well, I am loving the new In-Colors!! I can't get enough of them! And I used a couple of them on this card with the Spotlighting technique. I don't have a MISTI, so I had to improvise a bit and plan for some wiggle room :) Here is how I did it:

1. Cut a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock to 4¼"x11", score in half at 5½". This is the card base.
2. Cut a piece of Crumb Cake to 4"x5¼". Cut a piece of watercolor paper to about 1½"x4½". 
3. Stamp Rainbow on the watercolor piece with part of it off the bottom, use Archival Black ink. Color each letter a different color in rainbow order with an Aqua-painter: Real Red, Peekaboo Peach, Daffodil Delight, Cucumber Crush, Dapper Denim, Bermuda Bay, and Rich Razzleberry. 
4. Lay the watercolor panel down on the Crumb Cake panel where you want it to be. Ink up your image with Crumb Cake ink, then slide the watercolor panel up until you can stamp the image where the watercolor panel with overlay it, but you can still use the panel as a reference. 
5. Repeatedly stamp the rainbow image all over the Crumb Cake panel and alone the bottom edge of the inside of the card base.
6. Lay the watercolored panel over the image you intend to spotlight and trim down to the right size, starting with the ends, and trimming the top down to just above the image. By leaving extra paper to begin with, it gives you wiggle room to adjust the angle and the centering of the image.
7. Stamp the other pieces of the sentiment in Archival Black ink above and below the panel.
8. Outline the Crumb Cake panel with a white gel pen or chalk pencil.
9. Apply dimensionals to the back of the water color panel and adhere to the Crumb Cake panel. Then apply dimensionals to the back go the completed panel and adhere to the cardfront. (I am still using coasters for all of this). All done!

 Here is a side view which shows all of the dimension, and a peek at the stamping inside. I made this a top-fold card, just because I felt like it!

Valentine Countdown #10: Greatest Adventure

And here we are, the last of my Valentine Countdown projects. This one is for my fella :) For those of us with a manly counterpart, it can be a bit difficult to make a card with a masculine slant and have it still be a valentine. Hopefully I have shown you a few ways to accomplish this!

I used a Mojo Monday sketch for this card and I think it achieved an interesting look. It did get manly approval too :)

• I started with a piece of watercolor paper and made a couple areas of cherry cobbler wash with an Aquapainter. Then I added some Crumb Cake to one of then, and layered on the 2 colors, drying with a heat tool between layers. On the other area, I spattered some Cherry Cobbler on.  After these were very dry, I heat stamped the images with Versafine Onyx Black ink, sprinkled with Clear embossing powder, and heated with a heat tool 
• I dug out my MFT Stitched Circle dies and cut the 2 images out, both with the same sized circle. 
• I then cut a piece of DSP to 3¾"x5" and embossed with Happy Hearts, then sanded the raised areas a bit. Matted this on a 4"x5¼" Cherry Cobbler panel and stitched it down. Applied dimensionals to the back of the panel and adhered to a PTI Vintage Cream card base. 
• Take a ¼" scrap of vellum, stamp XOXO in Cherry Cobbler, sprinkle with clear embossing powder, and heat. Dovetail one end. 
• Apply dimensionals to the back of the globe circle and adhere to upper left of the card. 
• Apply Tear and Tape to the back of the heart circle and adhere to the lower right of the card, trimming off the over hang. Tuck the vellum sentiment under the circle while adhering.
• Stick a black Candy Dot on the heart circle like it is holding the vellum tag.
• Take a ¼" scrap of the DSP and glued it inside the card. Then I stamped the XOXO and hearts just above the DSP, used a blender pen and Cherry Cobbler ink to color the hearts. 
• All done!

Cute-ish, right! Now I need to think of what I am going to write in there!!

Valentine Countdown #9: Awesome You!

I think that Valentine's Day can be a great time to let some wonderful people in your life know just how much you appreciate them. So, gushy lovey-dovey stuff aside, here is a card to give to a dear friend, teacher, coach, or family member.

This also happens to be a card I made for a swap I was in recently, so it filled a double duty :) It uses two of the current Sale-A-Bration items you can earn right now. The Botanicals For You stamp set and the Botanical Gardens vellum stack!

Here is how I made this card:

• Cut a piece of Calypso Coral cardstock to 4"x5¼", then emboss with the Fluttering embossing folder. Cut a piece of Pretty Petals DSP to 2"x5¼" and adhere to the left side of the embossed panel. Outline with Signo whtie gel pen, adhere panel to a Thick Whisper White card base. 
• Cut a piece of Whisper White scrap to 2¼"x3½", then round the corners. Cut a piece of Botanical Gardens vellum to 2¾"x4" and round the corners. Wipe vellum with embossing buddy, then stamp the "Just for you" with Versamark. Sprinkle the top part of the sentiment with Silver embossing powder and tap off excess. Then sprinkle the rest of the sentiment with Gold embossing powder and tap off the excess. Heat with heat tool until melted. Put adhesive behind the embossed sentiment and adhere to the white panel. Apply dimensionals to the back of the white panel and adhere to the card front. 
• Inside, stamp the sentiment in Archival Black ink, then stamp the flower in Calypso Coral centered beneath the sentiment. Stamp the leaves in Mossy Meadow on each side of the flower.
• All Done!

 

I love the way the embossed colors flow together!
