Stash Busting: Episode 1

I have been getting some monthly kits for the 2 years or so. I don't always get the time to play with them. Ok, honestly. I don't ever get the time to play with them! I love them in theory, but have trouble allowing myself to used the stickers, ephemera, and patterned papers in kits. Dies and stamps, no problem! I have challenged myself to start using these fabulous kits I have been collecting!

These two cards were created with the Spellbinders July 2108: Fun in the Sun, and August 2018: Deliciously Summer kits of the month. These kits are LOADED with stuff, and will make dozens of cards! Neither of them are available anymore, but they are still on trend.

This patterned paper with the women of many colors is one of my favorites!! Brown people are seriously under-represented in papercraft products, so seeing this makes me happy. Plus, flip flips and sunglasses! The dies in this kit are awesome!

The sentiment is actually a sticker, which I struggle to use. This actually turned out well.

Then there is this Yeti eating watermelon. Or is it a sloth? I don't know, but he sure is cute!

The sentiment is mostly sticker, but one part is gold heat embossed with a retired Stampin Up set, Sunshine Sayings. Maybe you already have it in your stash too.

That fantastic die behind him is from PaperTrey Ink, and is called Shape Shifters: Circle Die 2. It is backed with some pink glitter paper. There are also dots of Nuvo Crystal Drops in Rhubarb Crumble.

What's in your stash? What better time than right now to start pulling out all those kits we just haven't had the time to play with!

Crafty Christmas Club: April

It is April 25th, so time for another Crafty Christmas Club Hop! Since we are all at home, flattening the curve, maybe there is more time to get ahead on our Christmas card creating 😁

My craft room is a great place to shop, and there is an abundance of Christmas themed stamps. Some haven't even seen ink! It's time to remedy that with some of my Christmas stamps sets. The My Favorite Things Ready, Set, Snow stamp set was waiting for me to be ready to use it. I purchased it this December and never got around to using it. I don't think it's available anymore, sadly. But since it's in my craft room, I can use it whenever I want to!

This background was an experiment I had made, trying to see if I could extend a 6 x 6 background stamp to stamp on a 5 x 7 panel. It worked out pretty well. I am really liking 5 x 7 cards lately, and this will make it easy to send photos with the card.

This is the Concord and 9th Pinstripe Background stamp, which I stamped in Cracked Pistachio distress ink. Then I ink blended with Shabby Shutters, Cracked Pistachio, and Peacock Feathers. This panel was my inspiration for this card.

The tree layers are made using the Hero Arts Tri-fold Edge Winter Pine fancy dies. That's a mouthful!

I colored the little penguin with Copic markers and added some Sakura Gelly Roll pen details.

I added some Clear Wink of Stella details to the snow splash and over the penguin's body. It's tough to see here, but is really shimmery in real life. You will just have to trust me 😀

Since I don't have a slopes stencil, I used a cloud stencil to create puffy details under the sentiment on the inside of the card. Please ignore the slightly fuzzy sentiment, there was a little shifting of the paper in my MISTI that I didn't catch. Of course, this was the last thing I did on the card and I wasn't about to start over.

Don't miss any of the other fantastic projects from the rest of the Crafty Friends! We have a brand new friend joining us this time. Please give a warm welcome to Carrie Rhoades! Blog roll at the end of this post.

Spring Celebrations: Cinco de Mayo

Hey Festival Friends!! This past Christmas, I decided to invite some crafty friends to join me in a Festival of Christmas with a themed limited run series of social media hops. It was so fun that we decided to do more limited run series!

And it is time for another one: Spring Celebrations. There are five episodes in this series, and this one focuses on Cinco de Mayo.

I love the bright colors and sheer joy of this celebration of the Mexican culture. Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Independence Day, as is commonly believed. It is a celebration of culture, and not actually a widely celebrated holiday in Mexico. But it is embraced by the Hispanic communities in the US as a way to celebrate their heritage. Parades and fiestas with lots of food, music, and dancing-what's not to love?!

So, while I wouldn't generally send a Cinco de Mayo card, I would definitely send a card with Mexican flare!

Concord and 9th has this adorable Pinata Party stamp set that coordinates with the Fringe Frenzy kit, and I have been dying to use them. This is the perfect opportunity.

The background is stamped or White Satin Pearl heat embossed,  and the scalloped mat. actually has a. beautiful die cut pattern that you can't really see here. I used Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide. ink to make the colored panels.  I think is matches the pinkish-red fringe paper.

This sentiment is from the Pinata Party set, and the streamers are  left over from the front panel.  I could not resist using them inside the card.

Concord and 9th really had a lot to offer me for this theme! This uses the Special Delivery stamp set and dies along with the woven stripes background stamp.

The background is ink blended with Mowed Lawn and Twisted Citron distress oxide inks then heat embossed with white embossing powder using the Woven Stripes background stamp.

The next panel is heat embossed with white satin pearl embossing powder with nothing else done to it. I like the elegant appearance it gives to have a pearl embossed image repeated on a background.

This taco food truck is colored with Copic markers and diecut with the coordinating die. The taco on top is from the same stamp set and is also colored with Copic markers and cut out with a coordinating guy.

And the inside is very simply finished with this sentiment from the hero arts it's fiesta time stamp set. This stamps that features a couple of Chihuahuas with a Mexican theme. If I had enough time I
would've made a bunch of cards with the stamp set too for this blog hop!

That's all I have for this hop. If you're interested in any of the supplies are used in these cards check out the listed at the bottom of this post.  And don't forget to visit the rest of the crafters on this hop for more ideas!

Crafty Friends: Trinity Stamps

Hey friends! I hope you are all safe and happy, and that the social distancing is not driving you insane. Although, we crafters are at a bit of an advantage. We kind of like to self isolate in our craft rooms, lol! Let's find some joy together in this time of uncertainty. Friends always help in times like these.

https://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=1377581&u=1696562&m=89722

This month, the Crafty Friends are featuring Trinity Stamps. They have some really fun designs, and I could not wait to play with the Slimline card dies! Trinity Stamps has generously offered a 20% discount for our viewers on April 20-21, 2020, excluding the April 2020 release items.

I have several stamp set featuring this wizarding world series, but I could not resist this half-giant fellow with his dog! This set is called Happee Birthdae, and it has coordinating dies, too. I love dies.

I was going for a magical look on the background, so I used Distress Oxides in Picked Raspberry, Wilted Violet, and Salty Ocean under Black Soot. Spattered with water, then spritzed with Pearlized water, then spattered with Perfect Pearl and the a white paint.

That was diecut with the Stitched Slimline card dies.

I colored up a bunch of the man and his dog,  so I am set to make a bunch of cards! Here are the Copic Colors I used:

Man:
  • Hair: E44, E47
  • Face: E01, E11
  • Clothes: E23, E25, E27, E29
  • Belt: E44, E29
Dog: W3, W5, W8 or T1, T3, T5

My W1 and W3 are getting a bit dry and I don't have refills for them yet. Was I the last Copic user to see that they are discontinuing the 25ml re-inkers and coming out with 12ml versions? And it is transition period, so you can't get either size! Sad day... but, this too shall pass.

This cake in a box sits in the middle of some fun stenciling with Pumice Stone Distress Oxides. I colored the box and cake with these Copics: E31, E34, E35, RV02, RV14

In future, I will not heat emboss the sentiment on the cake. It is too small to retain the detail. Trust me, it does say Happee Birthdae, lol!

I received a sequin mix as a gift with my order, and it was labeld Expecto Patronum magical mix, but I could not find it in the store. It is lovely, and I used it here in the shaker window. Trinity Stamps has an amazing selection of embellishments!

The sentiment stamp does stamp prefectly, I just used cheap black paper here so it looks a bit spotty. That is not the stamp's fault, just so you all know.

To finish it all off, this is the inside of the card. It came together pretty quickly, and I have enough pieces colored to make 5 more!

Don't forget to go check out Trinity Stamps, and use that coupon code between April 20-21, 2020!

Sassy and Crafty debuts!!

There is a new craft company in town!! Sassy and Crafty. I am in love. I know, I say that a lot. But there are so many awesome companies out there.

I also got my first order from Trinity Stamps, and will be using some of their Slimline dies.

The name of this stamps set is OMG. It has these two sassy ladies and 3 sentiments. And can I just say how amazed I was with the quality of these stamps?! Thick with deep etching. You know what I mean? Such wonderful craftmanship!

I was in a purple mood and used Copics to color her.

It's subtle here, but you can see I used the Comic Book stencil on the background.

More of the stenciling in the background, and a different set of purples. You can't really see it here, but there is lots of Wink of Stella and some Sakura Gelly Roll pen in clear and silver stardust.

Inside got a little more stencilling and the last bit of sentiment.

This card was super fun to create! And I know just who to give it to!

Creating Kindness: Colored Pencils

Hey friends! I hope everyone is home, healthy, and finding lots of time to craft! The Creating Kindness team is here to entertain you a bit. This month we are focusing on Colored Pencils. Thankfully, I had a small stash of Prismacolor pencils stashed in a drawer, and brought them out to play.

You would think there was more intention behind choosing the stamps I used. However, what really happened is that I found a piece of paper with several images from the Simon Says Stamp Party Like a Panda stamp set in my crafty cart, lol!

I pulled out an oval Papertrey Ink Shaker Shapes dies from my stash to create the shaker element. And Concord and 9th Seasonal Borders to stamp the background. The sequins are stash finds also. Who needs to buy more stuff? Not this crafter!

And I discovered that I really like using these colored pencils! And that I do not have any brown pencils. And I would like at least 2 brown pencils! We are going to call that a carrot cake, OK?

I love how smooth and rich these colored out to be!

To get some shading on the green, I used yellow with it. I think all my practice layering and blending colors with watercolors and Copics was helpful here.

That is my contribution, time to head off to the next stop!
